To have sufficient food has been a primary human question for millenia but adddressing the question of agriculture without rain water has been ignored or given insufficient attention by the scientific community. Irrigation has existed for centuries but has not significantly changed the food picture. Why do Saudis beleive that underground water will dry up and want to shift the problem to other areas. What applies in Saudi applies to Ethiopia. Massive irrigation in any area in Afrcia will have the same long term results as in Saudi. We should not forget the twin problem of drought and desertification that occurred in the past two decades. Do we know their causes yet?
