Currency devaluation highly affects the life of the people of Ethiopians living in the country.
Though currency devaluation may have advantages in view of many factors the government took this decision with out considering the inflation burden that has actually existed.
In a country whereby almost all goods purchased from abroad and exporting few agricultural products the effect of currency devaluating really affect the life of many Ethiopian.
Today the effect of devaluation courses an increase in the price of good by almost more then 20%.
really the transformatiom put stone for our future economic growth? it may be in the long run b/c in the short run dueto devaluathion comodity market may be get in to trable,in other words most importers get US$ by ethiopian expensive price and the burden will be on the ourchasing ability of ethiopian people.
Theoretically devaluation will improve exports and descourages import of a country but this is not true for countries,like Ethiopia, which relay on import of basic and necessity goods. So this policy have a burden for a society by causing inflation.
I think the devaluation is an imposition by the IMF and the world bank. Otherwise for countries like ethiopia who export primery goods mainly agricultural products devaluation does not help much to promote exports. Rather it is likely to push inflation up and this is a burden for consumers.
